Treatment of Substance Use Disorder affects people from all walks of life and is co-occurring with many other conditions. As a result, interns receive a wide range of experience treating many different mental health disorders.
Inclusion within staff meetings and case conferences provides insight into clinical considerations around client care, exposure to multiple perspectives, and the opportunity to engage in the conversation.
Interns are assigned their own caseload, meet with clients individually, facilitate group sessions, complete progress notes and documentation, work with collateral contacts, and complete funding requests for their assigned clients..
Compensation is given to all interns within their second year, with the potential to transition into full-time employment upon graduation.
First-year interns are unpaid, but successful interns who gained experienced at Odyssey House are given priority selection for a paid second-year internship at $13.00/hour.
Interns have the option of attending New Employee Workshop Training (NEWT) or completing compliance required trainings on Paylocity.
Each facility at Odyssey House has various trainings relevant to that specific program. Interns will attend staff meetings where they can engage in any trainings that happen in that particular space, and also have the opportunity to participate in the clinical decision-making process.
Likewise, there are occasional agency-wide trainings that interns can participate in, with Odyssey House paying for additional training outside the agency (e.g. Salt Lake County).
Interns will be assigned a clinical supervisor that they'll meet with for one hour per week. They'll also have a direct supervisor who will be on site with them and can answer any questions or provide any needed support -- sometimes these can be the same person.
Odyssey House also has an optional group supervision session each month that interns are more than welcome to attend if they wish.
This is a very boots-on-the ground internship. You will be doing almost everything a full-time therapist at Odyssey House does. This includes diagnosing mental health and substance-related conditions using the DSM V; conducting individual, family, and group therapy as assigned; and documenting services using ASAM Dimensional Analysis format, including all required elements.
Your supervisor will complete any necessary reporting per the requirements of each school and program.
