FAQ

Can I Walk in and admit the same day?

We accept walk-in appointments for residential care Monday - Friday from 9 AM to Noon. If you prefer to walk in and be seen the same day, please  show up between those hours at 344 East 100 South ground level. We will do our best to accommodate your needs on the same day!

Do you have a bed available?

Odyssey operates several programs and our census changes regularly. Please call and we can give you our real-time availability.

I am admitting into residential care, what can I bring?

Please bring the following items:

  • Comfortable clothing and shoes for about a week. On-site laundry facilities and supplies are provided. If you are unable to bring clothing we can get you what you need.
  • Alcohol-free toiletries including shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, shaving articles, brush/comb, and makeup (we will provide what you don't have).
  • Family photos
  • Spiritual or religious items
  • Books (self-help or religious)

What is the admissions process like?

Once you have scheduled your appointment you will meet with a team of experts to help you into care. We will guide you (and your family) through the admissions process and paperwork. You start with an evaluation to assess which of our programs best suits your needs. This evaluation can include questions about past triggering events, mental health, medical history, family, legal issues, etc. Because this evaluation is in-depth, your appointment can last up to two hours.

Can you help with transportation to my admission appointment?

Yes, we don’t want transportation to be a barrier to you getting into care. If you need help with a ride, please let us know and we will help.

What is your success rate?

Our success rates far exceed both national and state levels. Please look at our success page for our current success rates.

Do you have a detox program?

Odyssey has medical staff to help with opiate and methamphetamine withdrawal. If you are addicted to alcohol or benzos, we will connect you to medical detox to keep you safe and transition you directly back into our care once you finish your detox stay.

Do I have to be completely detoxed before I can be admitted?

It is a best-case scenario to have you detoxed before entering care, but we know this can be hard. If you are struggling to get sober, please let us know. We can help you with detox and make a plan with you to help your cravings and discomfort.

Can I be on suboxone/methadone medications in your program?

Yes, we encourage the use of all forms of MAT (methadone, suboxone, Vivitrol, etc.) when you enter care if it is medically appropriate for you.

Can I get medications prescribed at your program (Methadone)?

Yes, we help with all medical needs in our programming through our Martindale Clinic.

After admission what will happen to my personal belongings?

You will keep your valuables with you during admission and during care. Please note, Odyssey House is not responsible for lost or stolen items, so please don’t bring items that are expensive or super important to you.

How do I get someone out of jail to Odyssey?

It is important to coordinate with the attorney to help advocate for placement with the judge. We are happy to speak with the attorney and provide them what they need for court.

I’ve heard that Odyssey is a “snitch” program. Is that true?

No, we do not teach people to “snitch” on each other. We do teach people to hold healthy boundaries and not carry negative feelings inside, which some people misunderstand as “snitching.”

What if THC shows up in my UA?

That is okay, we will not report anything regarding your UA’s (unless you authorize us to) to anyone. Odyssey is bound by very strict confidentiality laws to protect your private information. We don’t anticipate you will have a clean UA when you enter care for drug treatment (if you do, that is a bonus).

Can I be on medical marijuana while at Odyssey House?

No, Odyssey House does not allow medical marijuana at this time.
